No nuts, crazy good

When hosting a party or playdate with kids outside your circle, extra caution is key, especially when it comes to the food & drink.

With tree nuts and peanuts being one of the most common allergies in kids, playing it safe is a thoughtful move, especially when you can cut the nut without sacrificing the sweet.

Here are 4 local spots supporting a nut-free playing field, so that more friends can dive into dessert. And while the nuts may be out, the cakes, bakes, tarts and carts are in it to win it.

(not) in a nutshell:

These light and flaky pastries are more than just a pretty face. In fact, there’s a lot of purpose behind this pop tart.

Creator and self-taught baker Lily has such a severe nut allergy that as a kid, she had very few options for ordering dessert.

Instead, she took batters into her own hands and taught herself how to bake the sweets she craved, without the nuts and the worry.

Pop tarts were one of the only pre-packaged treats she felt comfortable eating, so she decided to recreate them her own way, using fresh preserves and fun flavors that her friends and fam found irresistible.

One post on Instagram put Lily on the sweets circuit, and also brought back a classic that parents and kids could enjoy together — no nuts about it.

Extra props for their pop tart cake - an oversized pop tart that can be personalized for any celebration, and the mini tarts that come individually wrapped for the perfect party favor!

50 Maple Street, Croton-on-Hudson

(not) in a nutshell:

It’s a great time to talk about THE DESSERTIST, because this dessert powerhouse is busier than ever, expanding their reach and breaking the mold on what a sweet shop is made of.

From custom orders, to full-service catering, private events, online menus, store pickups, deliveries and wholesale, THE DESSERTIST family is spreading its wings, popping up all over Westchester and providing greater access to beautifully-designed, wow-worthy treats that leave the nuts behind.

And as if nut-free, edible cookie dough wasn’t enough, it’s actually just the beginning.

On the menu you will also find coveted occasion cakes, cookies, pops and bars…along with out-of-the-box offerings like dessert pizza, chacos, shooters and more.

Everything is customizable and made fresh to order, so to get access to the goods, make sure to plan pickups in advance (no walk-ins or drop bys!).

Plus — for private events, check out their full-service mobile dessert cart, which brings scoopable cookie dough & toppings straight to you.

Location:

580 Warburton Avenue, Hastings-on-Hudson

(not) in a nutshell:

Like the sweet shops mentioned above, Penny Lick Ice Cream wears their nut-free badge of honor loud and proud.  Inspired by their friends and family, they adopted a no-nut policy so that anyone with a nut allergy can safely eat their sweets.

And what a blessing it is to be able to enjoy a dreamy, creamy cup of ice cream on a hot and sunny summer day, especially when it comes in flavors like maple salted caramel, rum raisin, fresh mint chip, honey graham, aloha coffee, classic strawberry and more.

While you may think of ice cream as walk-in only; this Hastings hotspot keeps the home entertainer in mind.

In addition to curbside pick up and delivery of pints and hot fudge, you can also order an “Everything But the Scoop” party pack for a group of 15 people or less, or book an in-person ice cream cart for your BBQs and backyard bashes.

It’s simple, classic ice cream the way it should be.  No nuts. No nonsense.
